Industrial Insulation Services

The insulator (or industrial thermal insulation fitter) installs or depositing insulating materials on pipes, tanks, devices, etc. to protect them from the external environment and prevent heat loss or gain.

It often intervenes before other trades during maintenance operations to allow them to reach the equipment on which they have to work, and as soon as the intervention is completed, to replace the insulation.

In a nuclear power plant, the work of the heat insulator consists more particularly of intervening during maintenance programs or during the construction of installations.

As it often works at height, cooperation with scaffolds is very common, and they must, together, respect many safety rules.

Good manual skills, knowing how to represent oneself in space and construct an object, thoroughness and initiative, team spirit, rigor and knowledge of safety rules.

Minimum knowledge related to the understanding of physical phenomena (thermal phenomena in particular), technical drawing and / or metalworking (sheet metal), work with portable tools and machines (bender, folding machine, etc.) are necessary.

Specialization in thermal insulation requires training.

Depending on his experience and initial training, a heat insulator can work on more complex sites, and after a few years of experience, progress to a position of team leader or site manager, or even in the workshop as a sheet metal worker.

Levels 1, 2 and 3, each corresponding to training and a vocational qualification certificate.

There is no required diploma, recruitment remains based on the ability to work in a team and a taste for a job well done.

A first experience in temporary work, industrial maintenance or boiler making may be suitable.

However, the possession of a CAP / BEP in technical fields, with a preference for boilermaking and metalwork, is highly appreciated ... but also a baccalaureate or a BTS in maintenance or other technical fields.

Industrial thermal insulation professionals have organized themselves and today offer several professional qualification certificates "Industrial thermal insulation assembler" levels 1, 2 and 3.
